Recently I am thinking about how people spend 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 4 weeks a month, and 12 months a year. Why some persons take into account the importance of social networks and (really I have no idea) spend most of their times to update about “what’s going on”. The reason why they are willing to stop by reading others’ status or news feed.
Now, I would like to invite you to address this big concern (yea, this is such big thing I perceive): Reasons for stopping by at others’ page (either soc networks from Facebook to Instagram or blogs (from personal to official)).
And this is my view.
I open my eyes after my alarm is on in the morning. Yawning-at-about-30 secs and excusing-myself-to-say “please-give-me-5-mins-more-to-just-sleep-for-awhile” let me snoozes the alarm. Today, it is the first time to say hi to my phone. Touching the screen makes it suddenly stops buzzing “peep-peep-peep”. In the next 5 mins, it beeps again. With very heavy eyes, I wake up, prayed to say thanks to God, go directly to bathroom, prepare to go to office. It is about 4.50 a.m. I call my bro to deliver me to Trans Jakarta Shelter. Then, I expect that I will be the first person who arrives at the Shelter. Nope! Few people have already entered the Trans Jakarta to be ready delivered to final Shelter by a very tidy driver wearing formal suit. Most of people I stare to are opening their phones. I don’t know exactly what they are doing. One thing that is bore in my mind: Are they updating soc media’s status? OK, even the driver is also opening his phone. Just me! Yea, I don’t do that kind of act. So, I also open up my phone to just ensure that my alarm will not beep anymore (since it ever happened, so embarrassing). I do not intend to open any websites. I look around and still find out the same people keep opening up their phones. OK. It is not my business.
Next, I arrive at my destination and also find the ticket keeper (I don’t know the exact term) smiles at her phone (Arrgh, I start to sigh: “why everybody opens up the phone?”). Finally, I say hi to office’s desk. Oh yea, before sitting at the usual chair, I see the security is having business with his phone. Haha. I really wonder: should I call this morning is a phone-day?
Started workings, some of my friends are laughing. I want to join to laugh (or at least smirking) but I have no idea what to be laughed about. Again, my seniors stare at the phone (yea, they are Blackberry users) at smile, no no, they laugh shortly. Showing each others about what happened at ‘some-places’.
Recently, I have just known. They are intensely playing on soc medias, blogs, and whatever its name. Instead, I keep working on something that must be accomplished asap. Lately, I try to imitate (I promise to myself if it doesn’t work out I will stop to do so) keep being on (enough) at soc medias and other online stuffs. And now I know. Some advantages I gain from that habit. The most important one is: GAIN INFORMATION that I won’t get from being just-accomplish-the-assignments girl. Someone said regarding auditor life at business season: I HAVE NO SOCIAL LIFE. However, I see my seniors and all people surrounded (or even you) keep having social life through being ‘on’ enough at Facebook. It just takes 5 mins to scroll down or up the news feed to still keep in touch to others, though we do not say hi directly. It benefits me especially from news feed provided by some pages I follow from the Economist, Harvard, to the sexiest Beyonce. Reading my friends’ thoughts on notes they post or status they share.
As long as I can control how to use it wisely, it doesn’t matter to spend 5 mins of my time a day to just scan through what’s going on outside my life. Somewhat lyrical. But it’s true. At least, I could constantly say hi to you all.
So what’s yours?
